Happy Valentine's Day
For a moment, he may have invaded your skin.
Stolen your grace
Laughed at your fear
Threatened your life
Held your bones hostage
Planted a seed of rage and confusion
Abandoned you naked, breeze on your skin and a
hole in your heart.
You may have grasped wildly for breath.
Pleaded for mercy
Cried for it to end
Escaped to a happy place
Questioned your God
Limbs tensing and fighting back
Yearning to be dead if
you can’t kill him.
This moment may have lasted hours, months, or even years.
It may have been your regular Tuesday,
A habitual ritual,
Nothing out of the ordinary at all.
But it was only a moment.
And as I sit here on Valentine’s Day,
lonely but not alone,
tears welling up in my eyes
it isn’t because of the pain
it’s because there are so many more moments surrounding it, hugging you, giving you an opportunity to expand past his arms that might still suffocate you.
I want you to know that I see you, I hear you, and I believe you.
You can break through and fly free.
I hope someday, we soar.
